Bespoke Black Alligator Zip Pouch

This project was created for a long-standing client of V. Kondratenko Studio and was intended as a gift for someone within his professional circle.

We had worked together before, so the process of selecting materials and details was already familiar to the client. In this case, he was personally involved in discussing the project and choosing the black alligator leather, paying particular attention to the scale pattern, texture and overall character of the material. The interior finish, hardware and other details were also considered and approved as parts of one complete object rather than as separate technical choices.

For a gift of this level, it was important not only how the piece would look at first sight. Equal attention was given to how it would be constructed inside, how it would feel in use and how consistently even the less visible details would be resolved.

The exterior was made from black alligator leather. The large uninterrupted surfaces allow the natural scale pattern to remain clearly visible, while the restrained form avoids competing with the material through unnecessary decoration. The pouch measures 30 × 21 × 7.5 cm, providing useful internal volume while remaining compact enough to carry by hand or take to meetings and travel.

The interior is fully finished in Alcantara®. It is used not only as a lining, but also throughout the internal construction and pockets. The main compartment closes with a Swiss-made RiRi zipper. Hidden Jaeger Reinforcements are used in areas subject to greater structural stress.

All principal seams are sewn by hand using the traditional saddle stitch with MeiSi Super Fine linen thread. Here, hand stitching is not a decorative statement but part of the overall construction logic, with each component assembled and finished as part of a single coherent object.

Another feature of the project is an NFC module discreetly integrated into the construction. It links to a dedicated digital page for the object, preserving a connection between the physical piece and the story of its creation without adding visible external branding.

In gifts like this, value is not defined by expensive leather alone or by brand recognition. It is built through the choice of material, the client’s attention to detail, the time of the craftsman and the many decisions that the recipient may never see as separate stages of work, but will experience in the finished object.
