Black Alligator Watch Strap Made for a Butterfly Deployant Clasp

This bespoke black alligator watch strap was made for use with a butterfly deployant clasp. In this type of project, the strap has to work not only visually with the watch, but also mechanically with the clasp, the wrist curve and the way the watch closes around the hand.

The strap was made with an anatomical shape, so it follows the wrist more naturally and helps the deployant clasp sit more comfortably in daily use. This is especially important with folding clasps, where the thickness, curvature and flexibility of the strap affect how stable and balanced the watch feels on the wrist. For the upper leather, I used black alligator with a restrained natural sheen. The material keeps the watch classic and discreet, while the stitching adds a more individual detail. I selected a warm gold-toned thread to echo the colour of the watch case and clasp. This creates a visual connection between the leather and the metal parts without making the strap look overly decorative.

The lining side was made from hypoallergenic leather suitable for regular contact with the wrist. The dimensions, 115/75 mm with a 22/20 mm taper, were chosen for this particular watch and clasp configuration. Like most fine leather watch straps, this alligator strap is not waterproof. It can tolerate occasional moisture in normal use, but it should be protected from soaking, swimming, showering and prolonged exposure to water.

The result is a restrained bespoke strap where the main decisions are quiet but deliberate: black alligator for a classic appearance, anatomical shaping for comfort, and gold-toned stitching to connect the strap with the watch case and butterfly clasp.
