A client approached me with a request for a custom black calfskin handbag based on the idea of a compact, structured ladies’ handbag with an elongated trapezoidal body, a top handle, a shoulder strap, and a clean front flap. She liked the elongated trapezoidal shape, the top handle, the shoulder strap, and the calm architectural silhouette. At the same time, she did not want visible logos, inscriptions, or decorative branding.

This was the main point of the commission. The bag had to keep the mood of a refined compact handbag, but without relying on a name or a visible sign on the front. In such a case, the visual weight shifts to other things: the proportions, the leather, the flap, the handle, the stitching, the edge finishing, and the overall accuracy of construction.

The handbag was made from smooth black calfskin. This leather was chosen because it supports the restrained character of the piece. It does not distract from the silhouette, but allows the shape and lines of the bag to remain clear. For a small object, this is especially important. When there is no decorative branding, every line becomes more exposed.

The body has an elongated trapezoidal shape, with a clean front flap and a magnetic tab closure. The flat top handle gives the bag a composed, hand-carried character, while the removable and adjustable shoulder strap makes it practical for everyday use. A patch pocket was added to the back for small items that need to remain quickly accessible.

Inside, the handbag is fully lined with Alcantara. The main compartment includes an internal patch pocket. For a compact handbag, the interior is not a secondary detail. It is used constantly, and it has to feel as finished as the outside.

The bag is stitched entirely by hand. In this project, hand stitching is not only a visible sign of manual work. It also gives more control over the construction, especially around the flap, handle attachments, tab closure, and edges. These are the areas where the accuracy of a small structured bag is most clearly seen.
