Custom Grained Leather Backpack

A client approached me with a request to make a custom grained leather backpack. He liked the idea of a small city backpack with a simple modern shape, practical construction, and a restrained appearance.

The backpack was made from grained cowhide leather. This material suits the purpose of the piece: it has enough visual texture to avoid looking flat, but it still keeps the overall appearance calm and versatile. For an object intended for daily use, this balance is important. The leather should not only look good when new, but also tolerate regular handling and movement.

One of the practical requirements was to keep the backpack compact while making access to the contents convenient. For this reason, two zips were used. They allow the top section to open more easily and make the backpack more practical in daily use. In a small structured backpack, this detail matters: if the opening is too narrow or too stiff, the object may look good but become inconvenient.

The chosen shape is simple and visually restrained. In this version, there are no unnecessary decorative elements, visible branding, or excessive hardware. The visual value is carried by the leather, the proportions, the zips, the edge finishing, and the accuracy of the handmade work.

The adjustable shoulder straps make it possible to adapt the backpack to the wearer. This is especially important for a compact leather backpack because the position on the back changes how the object feels and how its proportions are perceived.
