In today’s world, where individuality is valued above all else, customisation of products is becoming more and more in demand. This is especially true for status items such as watches. In this article I will tell you about an interesting project 2021 Lion, customisation of modern gold Cuervo & Sobrinos watches by jeweller Sergey Sofronov, within the framework of which I created a pair of watch straps made of alligator leather.

Task

We had a task to create a watch that would not only emphasise the status of the owner, but would also be special and memorable for him. The customer wanted the watch to remind him of his son called Lev and could be passed on to him as a legacy.

Solution

To realise this task it was decided to carry out a comprehensive customisation of the Cuervo & Sobrinos watch.
First of all, the case of the watch was examined to see if it could be fitted with the maximum allowable size of diamonds. After careful analysis, it was decided to set 100 diamonds totalling 1.75 carats around the perimeter of the case. This work required great precision and craftsmanship, but the result exceeded all expectations. The watch case acquired a completely new, luxurious look, becoming a real jewel.

Next, Sergei began to create a dial with a lion, symbolising the name of the client’s son. After several variants of the design, the optimal one was chosen, which satisfied the customer in all parameters. The new dial was made of silver with gold elements tausching in the places where the eyes of the animal are located. This gave the image of the lion a special expressiveness and depth. By combining hand engraving and niello techniques, Sergei created a detailed and realistic image of the lion. Diamonds were set on the hour markers at 12 and 18 o’clock, which not only embellished the dial but also made it more functional.

Straps

Finally, to complete the look of the watch, I made two handmade watch straps in premium quality alligator leather in black and red colours.
The black strap is the epitome of classic elegance. It is ideal for business meetings and festive events, emphasising the owner’s impeccable taste and status.

The ginger strap, on the contrary, adds casualness and individuality to the look. It is the perfect choice for everyday wear and meeting with friends.

Two straps are an opportunity to change while remaining yourself. Today you are strict and businesslike, and tomorrow – bright and creative. Changing the strap takes just a few seconds and your watch looks completely different. This is especially convenient for those who value their time and don’t want to waste it looking for the right accessory.
Choosing a strap is a way to express your individuality, emphasise your taste and mood. A black strap is the choice of self-confident people who appreciate classics and elegance. The red one, on the other hand, will suit those who are not afraid to experiment and stand out from the crowd. Two straps are two different stories you can tell with your watch.

The result

As a result of our collaboration, we have created a unique Cuervo & Sobrinos ‘Lion’ watch that fully meets the customer’s wishes. It not only looks luxurious and elegant, but also carries a deep meaning, reminding us of our son and symbolising the continuity of generations.

Conclusion

The complex customisation of products such as watches makes it possible to create unique items that reflect the owner’s personality and meet his or her needs. In the Lion project, we managed to realise the customer’s most daring ideas, creating a watch that will become a real family heirloom.
