Eight years ago, to fulfill this order, I made an auxiliary tool for cutting leather strips of the required width. Now the process has become even more refined and complex. A leather strip 10 mm wide is thinned to 0.5 mm along its entire length, and then the edges are folded by 2.5 mm, creating a flat cord 5 mm wide and 1 mm thick. The body of the gaitan is handwoven from four such strips. The gaitan consists of four narrow leather strips, which are neatly handwoven together, creating a strong and elegant construction. The item is adorned with a silver clasp in the shape of a griffin’s head. The extremities and inserts are in the form of interlocking feathers. Such gaitans can be used as accessories for wearing around the neck or for suspending various items.
