Custom strap for Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare – Saffiano leather

This project involved crafting a Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare strap to replace a damaged original. A client contacted me with a request to create a practical and durable replacement for his Acqua Mare Ref. GA38 14 9 K9/K10:R. The original rubber strap, sized 24 M, had become brittle with time — it cracked, stiffened, and eventually broke.

Instead of replacing it with another rubber piece, I suggested a more refined and long-lasting material: dark blue Saffiano leather. Its elegant texture closely mirrored the patterned surface of the original strap while adding strength, wear resistance, and a subtle luxurious feel. To maintain comfort, especially for daily or active use, I used a waterproof and hypoallergenic leather lining. Like all of my watch straps, this one was made with an ergonomic, anatomically curved shape, so it fits the wrist naturally and feels comfortable from the first wear — without the usual break-in period.

Color selection was also intentional. The deep navy blue perfectly complements the bold character of the Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare, retaining its sporty aesthetic while adding an understated elegance.

Additional construction details:

– Edges are finished with water-based polymer by  Fenice S.p.A. (Italy)

– The structure is reinforced with materials from Jaeger (Germany) in key stress zones

– Every element was carefully handcrafted to fit the original Roger Dubuis clasp system precisely
