Burgundy Leather Watch Strap for a DKNY Watch

Sometimes a watch is more than a timekeeping instrument or a fashion accessory. For its owner, it may be connected with a certain period of life, a memory or a personal habit. This DKNY watch strap project was exactly such a case: the task was not simply to replace a worn strap, but to give a familiar personal object a new life.

The original DKNY watch strap was made from embossed leather with an alligator-style texture. It served as a reference for the shape and general character of the replacement strap, but it did not have to be copied literally. The new strap was made in a burgundy colour selected to connect visually with the colour of the dial.

Although it would have been possible to make the strap from genuine alligator leather, I chose Alran leather from France for this project. Its fine grain, softness and elegant surface suited the character of the watch and offered a more refined material solution than the original embossed leather. The lining side was made from hypoallergenic moisture-resistant leather from Italy, suitable for regular contact with the wrist.

The original metal parts were disassembled, cleaned and polished before being reused. This allowed the new strap to preserve the recognizable character of the watch while improving the quality and comfort of the leather construction.

For internal stability, I used Jaeger reinforcements. They help the strap keep its shape and reduce the risk of stretching or deformation during use. This is especially important when restoring or remaking straps for watches where the construction, hardware and original proportions need to work together.

The result is a new burgundy leather watch strap that respects the original DKNY watch but improves the materials, comfort and durability of the piece. It is not a replica in the strict sense, but a more considered replacement made around the client’s watch, its colour and its personal value.
