Leather strap for an Omega Flightmaster watch from the 1970s.

The owner of a rare Omega Flightmaster watch from the 1970s approached me with a special order. These watches, produced in limited quantities and intended for professional aviators, are true masterpieces of watchmaking. Previously, the watch came with an original metal bracelet, but time spares even the best materials.

The customer noted that metal bracelets, despite their initial appeal and durability, are often uncomfortable. They are not always balanced in weight with the watch case, making them less comfortable to wear. In cold weather, the metal cools the wrist, causing discomfort. Additionally, such bracelets can pull hairs on the wrist and deform over time, especially with vintage models.

Understanding all these issues, the client decided to replace the metal bracelet with a custom-made leather strap. We discussed the details for a long time and finally decided on a classic rally design from the 1960s. This style features stylish perforations, which provide additional wrist ventilation and are reminiscent of the shapes of the watch’s extra dials.

For the strap, we chose Alran “Sully” goat leather from France. We selected a dark blue color for the strap, which harmoniously matches the color of the watch’s additional hand and symbolizes the endless sky. The white stitching on the strap adds elegance and echoes the white markings on the dial, creating a unified and stylish look.

The strap measures 22 mm in width at the attachment and 20 mm at the buckle, with a length of 115 mm and 75 mm. The strap’s lining is made from hypoallergenic, waterproof leather, ensuring comfort and durability. Additionally, the strap is equipped with a folding clasp for convenience and secure fastening.
