Alligator leather watch strap for the Seculus watch

This bespoke watch strap was made for a Seculus watch in black alligator leather with a deployment clasp. The project used the client’s original strap as a donor for the internal insert at the case end of the strap, allowing the new leather construction to preserve the correct fit between the lugs.

This construction is important for Seculus watches. In my work, I often see original Seculus straps fail around the transition between the rigid insert and the leather part. Because the insert has a specific fit to the watch case, the original strap is usually needed as a donor when making a new bespoke strap.

The main visual feature of this strap is the cross-cut alligator upper leather, where the natural transverse fold from the belly area creates a distinctive horizontal rhythm. On a relatively small object such as a watch strap, the position of the alligator pattern strongly affects the final character. Here, the selected section gives the strap more depth and individuality while keeping the overall appearance formal and controlled.

The black alligator leather has a slight natural sheen, which works well with the polished metal of the watch and the original Seculus deployment clasp. The clasp adds practical convenience and helps the watch feel complete as a daily object.

For the lower layer, I used hypoallergenic moisture-resistant lining leather for daily comfort. Inside the construction, Jaeger reinforcements from Germany were used to help the strap resist stretching and deformation over time.

The result is a restrained black alligator strap that preserves the specific case-end fit of the original Seculus strap while replacing the worn leather structure with a stronger bespoke construction.
