Custom strap for Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare watch

This custom strap was made for a Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare watch. The original rubber strap had become hard, cracked, and no longer suitable for comfortable wear, so the task was to create a practical leather replacement while preserving the character of the watch.

For the upper leather, I used dark blue Saffiano leather. Its structured surface gives the strap a clean and slightly technical appearance, which suits the sporty geometry of the Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare without trying to imitate the original rubber material.

The aim was not to make a decorative strap, but to create a more refined everyday alternative. Dark blue leather keeps the watch visually restrained, while the Saffiano texture adds durability, surface structure, and a more formal leather character.

For the lower layer, I used hypoallergenic moisture-resistant lining leather for daily comfort. This is especially important when a watch originally designed with a rubber strap is converted to leather, because the strap still needs to remain practical in regular use.

The result is a dark blue Saffiano leather strap that gives the Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare a cleaner and more refined appearance while replacing the damaged original rubber strap with a wearable bespoke leather construction.

A later Roger Dubuis Acqua Mare project developed this idea further, with a more detailed focus on ergonomic shaping, clasp integration, edge finishing, and reinforcement.
