Customised strap for the Bulgari Octo Maserati Chronograph

This bespoke strap was made for a Bulgari Octo Maserati Chronograph using the client’s original strap as a construction reference and donor. The original strap contained an internal insert near the watch case, which helped the strap sit closely against the case and preserve the intended transition from case to strap.

For a watch like the Bulgari Octo, this detail is especially important. The case has a strong architectural geometry, and a generic flat strap would not continue that design language correctly. The insert helps the strap sit close to the case and maintain the intended relationship between the watch head and the strap.

The upper leather was selected for its colour, texture, and compatibility with the character of the watch. The blue tone works with the dial and the Maserati character of the chronograph, while the leather surface gives the strap enough depth without making it visually heavy.

The new strap was made in full rembordé construction. In this type of strap, the upper leather is wrapped around the edge and folded to the underside, creating a clean closed edge rather than a visible cut edge. This is especially useful for a watch with such precise case lines, where the strap should look finished and structurally integrated.

The main challenge was to rebuild the strap around the original internal insert while renewing the leather structure. The old strap provided the case-end geometry, while the new leather, lining, stitching, and edge construction gave the strap a renewed appearance and longer usable life.

For the lower layer, I used hypoallergenic lining leather for better comfort during daily wear. The strap was finished with controlled stitching and proportions suitable for the original clasp and the scale of the watch.

The result is a bespoke Bulgari Octo Maserati strap that preserves the original case-end logic of the watch while replacing the worn leather part with a new full rembordé construction.
