Ulyse Nardine Caprice watch strap in Tegus lizard leather

This bespoke watch strap was made for a Ulysse Nardin Caprice in natural tegu lizard leather. It was created as one of several straps for the same watch, allowing the client to change the visual character of the timepiece through material, colour, and texture.

The tegu lizard leather was selected not only for its texture, but also for its colour variation. The lighter natural markings in the leather echo the soft tone of the dial, creating a quiet connection between the strap and the watch face. This makes the strap feel integrated with the watch rather than simply attached as an exotic material.

The Ulysse Nardin Caprice has its own distinctive construction near the case. The visible metal covers near the case are separate original components of the watch system and were transferred with the watch. The new leather strap was made around this construction, with a new internal metal insert inside the strap itself to help preserve the correct structure and fit.

The strap was made in full rembordé construction. In this type of strap, the upper leather is wrapped around the edge and folded to the underside, creating a clean closed edge rather than a visible cut edge. This construction suits the refined character of the Caprice and gives the strap a seamless, unstitched appearance.

For the lower layer, I used hypoallergenic lining leather for daily comfort. The strap was finished with clean proportions suitable for the original watch construction.

The result is a natural tegu lizard strap that gives the Ulysse Nardin Caprice a lighter, more textured, and more nuanced character. It does not compete with the watch, but uses the natural markings of the leather to echo the dial and soften the overall appearance.
