Customised strap for the Ulyse Nardine Caprice watch

This bespoke watch strap was made for a Ulysse Nardin Caprice in red alligator leather. It was created as one of several straps for the same watch, allowing the client to change the visual character of the timepiece through material, colour, and texture.

The red alligator leather gives the Caprice a more expressive and jewellery-like character. On this watch, the strap is not a neutral background detail. It strongly influences how the case, dial, and decorative metal elements are perceived together. The red tone makes the watch feel more vivid, while the alligator texture keeps the result refined rather than purely decorative.

The Ulysse Nardin Caprice has its own distinctive construction near the case. The visible metal covers near the case are separate original components of the watch system and were transferred with the watch. The new leather strap was made around this construction, with a new internal metal insert inside the strap itself to help preserve the correct structure and fit.

The strap was made in full rembordé construction. In this type of strap, the upper leather is wrapped around the edge and folded to the underside, creating a clean closed edge rather than a visible cut edge. This construction gives the strap a seamless, unstitched appearance and suits the refined character of the watch.

For the lower layer, I used hypoallergenic lining leather for daily comfort. The strap was finished with clean proportions suitable for the original watch construction and the scale of the Caprice case.

The result is a red alligator strap that gives the Ulysse Nardin Caprice a stronger, brighter, and more expressive presence. It changes the mood of the same watch without changing the watch itself.
